GAIA: Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Center

Gaia is a forest ecosystem monitoring center designed to support environmental observation while minimizing disruption to the surrounding habitat.

The design is organized around a tall central structure that acts as the visual and spatial core of the building. Smaller volumes extend outward from this core, creating spaces for different functions while keeping the overall footprint relatively concentrated. In the physical model, these volumes appear to project from the main tower rather than forming one large enclosed mass. This helps the building feel distributed through the site instead of dominating it.

Vegetation is integrated directly into the architecture. Greenery spreads across the roof surfaces and climbs along the central structure, visually softening the boundary between the constructed form and the surrounding environment. Rather than treating plants as decoration added after the building was designed, the model presents them as part of the building itself.

Water also plays an important role in the composition. The structure is surrounded by a continuous body of water, creating a clear separation between the central building and the outer edge of the site. Visually, this makes the architecture feel like it is emerging from a small ecosystem of its own. The water also reinforces the project's broader focus on natural systems and environmental observation.
